The catastrophic loss of life and destruction of property caused by earthquakes, landslides, cloudbursts, and overflowing rivers is beyond comprehension. Yet, whenever disaster has struck, the overseas Pakistani community has stood shoulder to shoulder with their brothers and sisters in Pakistan their ancestral motherland.
Historical examples have been the devastating 2005 earthquake in Balakot, Azad Kashmir, one of Pakistan’s worst tragedies. That disaster claimed an estimated 87,000 lives and left over three million people homeless. In response, the government of Pakistan made a passionate appeal to the overseas Pakistani community for help.
The diaspora responded with unprecedented generosity raising record-breaking funds and providing life-saving assistance.
From medical equipment and scanning machines to blankets, tents, mobile homes, food, and clothing, the overseas Pakistani community went above and beyond, It was an outpouring of patriotism, compassion, and determination that brought hope to millions who had lost everything.
Today, Pakistan faces another calamity of comparable scale. Record-breaking monsoon rains have triggered destructive floods across vast regions of the country, leaving survivors destitute and desperate. Homes, possessions, and entire livelihoods have been washed away.

Today, Pakistan faces another calamity of comparable scale. Record-breaking monsoon rains have triggered destructive floods across vast regions of the country, leaving survivors destitute and desperate. Homes, possessions, and entire livelihoods have been washed away.
Families are struggling for shelter, clean water, food, and medical care, while their very survival hangs in the balance.
Shazada Hayat went on to say, The overseas Pakistani community must once again rise to the occasion. The victims of these disastrous floods are in peril. They need us now more than ever. Just as we did in Balakot, we must unite with compassion and determination to help our brothers and sisters in their hour of need. I urge my fellow members of the overseas Pakistani community to help the victims in need and to coordinate their relief efforts through official channels to ensure maximum impact.
We advise the community to take guidance from the Pakistan High Commission in London as to the best way to channel the much needed funds and relief supplies, so that they reach those who need them most.
Shazada Hayat also expressed his heartfelt pride in the UK’s overseas Pakistani community for its unwavering dedication and wished to state, I am so proud of my community here in the UK. Time and again, you have shown your love for Pakistan and the people.
You have always answered the call when disaster has struck. Today, once again, Pakistan looks to you for support. The overseas Pakistani community should send their message loud and clear to the surviving victims of Pakistan’s floods, that they do not stand alone. We the overseas Pakistani members of the community shall and forever more will stand shoulder to shoulder with them, Inshallah, forevermore come what may,
said Shazada Hayat.
